Installation - SCAD Fahm Hall Gemstone
The design always starts with a romanticized rendering that allows the client to understand the goal. The steps begin with prepping surface treatments and welding the metal frames to fit into place.
For this project we utilized over 50Ibs. of reclaimed fabric for gemstone surfaces. Each fabric surface is hand-dyed and sewn on to welded frames.
The suspended stones are constructed with opal translucent paper wedged between two welded frames and cover with sheer fabric and resin to allow the reflections of natural light.
Behind each faceted stone is an small LED light that allows them to transform and illuminate at night.
Our attraction toward sustainable design is that it is always an educational opportunity. You must be open to learn from you mistakes, build community, and share knowledge.
The end goal for our public art is to revitalize the presence of ecological design and bring to life a new momentum in creating.
